Re: Opinions needed on an engine failure

25w40 is the oil mercury uses in the marine engines, which is just a SBC. I own a shop and when I work on boats with a SBC it always gets the quicksilver 25w40, my personal boat gets it, has for years, the 25w40 is a non issue. These engines work hard and the oil gets hot, this keeps oil pressure up.

Re: Rebuilt BBC won't fire - Cylinder 1 & 2 cold

You said you get one quick flash when you let off the starter, check and make sure you have 10+ volts to the HEI during cranking. If it is wired wrong where it only has power in ignition on, but not in crank on the key switch it won't start. Also if voltage drops to low during cranking the HEI will ...

Re: SCAT 9000 Limits

Sorry to resurrect - curious what size boat this was? The boat motor I was talking about has a eq vortec head on it and hydraulic roller with a eps manifold as it has to sit under the sun deck of the boat and idle at 600 rpm to go into gear clean. It made 466ft/lbs at 3600rpm and 380hp at 5,200 rpm...

Re: Will this shaft rocker mod work?

I don't have any pictures as I did it long ago, but I put a set of probe shafts on the pro topline heads on my 302. They were offset real bad also. I just drove the pin out of the roller tip, milled the notch wider in the rocker body and made a round spacer on a lathe that pushed the roller wheel ov...

Re: Filter cut database.

The oil in this pan is out of a filter off of a brand new hemi 5.7 reman engine with 500 miles on it with amsoil breakin oil in it. The oil pressure hasnt moved since initial startup and its now got 2,000 miles on it with no signs of issues. There was almost no metal caught in the filter itself but ...

Re: 8.2 Deck Dart/World Windsor longest stroke possible?

I honestly don't remember, I haven't looked at the crank in probably about a year now I could be off on the number of mallory slugs in it, but I know it's a bunch. I had more pictures, but my phone just shut off and i can't seem to recover them all, This piston in the picture is not the piston i'll ...

Re: 8.2 Deck Dart/World Windsor longest stroke possible?

Im currently chipping away at a 8.2 deck stroker for a street car of this caliber. It is a dart iron eagle block, a kings crankshaft 3.550 stroke crank with a honda rod journal. I believe it's 1.850 I dont remember. carrillo 5.4" rod with a .812 wrist pin. Custom racetec piston 1mm,1mm,2mm rin...

Re: KB hypereutectic pistons

I've got a pump gas 302 ford with kb16 dome pistons and 54cc heads. Its around 11.3:1. It made 490hp at 7600 rpm on the dyno. I have a 8000 rpm pill in the box and find it all the time. I've never had a problem with the pistons. One thing that did surprise me is the timing it took with the dome pist...

Re: Cylinder Rust Quandry

I know for a fact as soon as you go to race gas it becomes a problem. Maybe a better way of saying it is that race gas doesn't have the additives in it that pump fuel does to combat rust in the cylinders after its been shut off. I wonder if adding some 2 stroke oil to race gas would actually cure th...

Re: Cylinder Rust Quandry

This is just from the race gas. It's so dry the cylinders rust. Big issue on dirt track cars, they race them throw them in the trailer and pull the plugs a couple days later and they will be rusty. If using race gas it has to be fogged if it sits at all or it will flash rust the cylinders. Probably ...

Bill c, is cobra automotive your shop? Can you build a header for a 70 mustang with a cleveland head on a 8.2 deck block? Its a speedmaster casting and the port is raised an 1" over stock cleveland head so I'm told. Supossedly positioning it about the same as a 351 cleveland. I'm gonna be needi...
