Re: Drop Base Filter Update/closure

lnl could you verify which color base goes with which color line hard to tell with these old eyes I may be off base and thanks for the info Sorry for missing this question, I've had 4 major surgeries since this was posted! The blue base is the blue line. The chrome base is the green line. The spun ...

Re: Fast Fuel Injection Systems Who Running them

We used a half dozen of the FAST systems on sub 650hp cars, they were all nothing but problems...bad computers, forgetting programming overnight, sensor issues, etc. We dumped them, pulled those units off those cars, and switched to the Holley systems, absolutely no problems now. IMO the FAST units...

Re: Drop Base Filter Update/closure

I tested that same spun base against two others I had on hand. One was the common drop base you get with most other aircleaner assemblies, and the 3rd was a zero-drop but with a mild radius entering the carb. http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee127/vcxzrewq/074.jpg Here are the chassis dyno results...

Re: camshaft selection

With the blower, you should be able to run much less intake duration and STILL make killer power. I'd use a smaller intake lobe, but a bigger exhaust lobe. LSA is meaningless, it's just a by-product of getting the right sized intake lobe, the best intake opening point, the right amount of overlap, a...

Re: Radiator and Electric Fans

I have a 2-pass radiator, custom built by C&R. They supplied a 3000+ cfm single SPAL fan, with a shroud that covers the entire finned area. I have the high-flow Meziere electric water pump, and use a DC Controls PWM (variable speed) controller to control both the fan and the waterpump. Worst cas...

Specs on Brodix HV1801 intake?

Hi, I'm needing the intake specs on a Brodix HV1801 intake. I'm trying to help somebody make some decisions based on this intake, but the intake is not currently available for me to measure. Mainly wish to know port height, width, and avg. runner length. I've checked Brodix's website, but the info i...

Re: Pontiac engine question..

For a naturally aspirated, pump gas burning, mostly street use motor, the 455 Pontiac is one of the best motors you can build. You can use virtually ALL factory parts to build it, with a stock to mild torque converter and 3.08 gears, and still run 12's. With a little head work, a bit more gear and s...

Re: LS7 stock short block H/C/I belts out 660RWHP N/A on 92

The wavy "torque" curves map VERY closely to the smooth baseline HP curve. You have a good running motor, regardless, but I would be VERY wary of making claims on curves that are THAT wavy. There could be a problem with the pickup module on the dyno, or something else, but SOMETHING is out...

Re: Quadrajet carb

Just a one-time example, but last year I had two cars on my chassis dyno, both very similar, both using Q-jets. One carb was built by Dan, and the other by.... well.... somebody else. Dan's A/F curve was FLAT!! Super smooth, performed very well, very impressive. Comparing the A/F curves of the two c...

Re: How to determine valve lash....roller cam

Put it on a dyno (or at the track) and just test different settings.

My solid roller's cam card said .026/.026. But, it makes a dozen+ hp more set at .021/.024. If I change the intake .002 either way, the power drops.

I agree. Ken "Ace" Brewer is one of the true "good guys". I've known him since the 90's, and he has always been solid, and had great prices as well.

Re: Best OEM blocks???

Do a search on "Jim Hand", and see what he's done with damned near all factory Pontiac parts.

Personally, I'd probably go with a 460 Ford based motor, if I were to start a new project today.

Re: pontiac port job

Steve, I think you are over-cammed. Maybe try loosening the lash for a few runs, to simulate having a little less duration, and see what happens? I agree, you are running well for a low-CR 400! I've known guys with higher-CR 455's that ran similar times. You obviously have your combo WELL dialed in!...

Re: pontiac port job

Have you read Jim Hand's book? Also, review the successul and proven combos found at Bill Boyle's http://www.pontiacstreetperformance.com website. IMHO, you need at least 9.5:1 for an iron headed 400 Pontiac to run decent with iron heads. You ain't gonna get there with those pistons, and those pisto...
